Ideally between weeks 28 and 34, in the third trimester: the bump is already nicely round and looks beautiful, but you still move with ease and not too much heaviness. Before week 28 the belly may not show as much, and very close to the birth it can be uncomfortable. If you're expecting twins, it's worth bringing the session forward a couple of weeks. Completely, that's my part of the job. I direct you through each pose step by step: where to put your hands, how to turn your body, where to look, what to do with the dress. I choose angles that flatter the pregnancy silhouette and the light that best suits the skin. Most mums arrive nervous and within ten minutes are enjoying it. You'll come out beautiful, I promise — that's exactly the goal.

Of course, and it enriches the session a lot. I take solo portraits of you — the heart of a pregnancy session — and also family scenes: your partner with hands on the bump, a kiss, the older siblings listening or kissing the belly. Those moments with the little ones are often the most tender. Let me know at booking who's coming so I plan the time well.

What shows the bump best are flowing fabrics fitted to the body: a long dress that moves in the wind looks spectacular on the beach, and plain, neutral tones work in any location. Many mums bring two options to vary. You can also pose with the bare bump, cradling it with your hands or a fabric, if you fancy something more artistic.
