Tenerife: Spain's only destination for above-the-clouds photography
Tenerife offers compositions impossible elsewhere in Spain: Teide (active volcano, 3,718m — Spain's highest peak) usually sits above the "sea of clouds" of the trade winds. This means you can photograph couples literally above clouds — a "celestial" look no other Mediterranean destination allows.
The island concentrates five distinct microclimates: southern coast (24-28°C year-round), northern coast (more humid, tropical vegetation), Anaga (virgin laurel forest, mystical fog), Teide (high mountain, Martian volcanic landscape), Masca (deep gorges, "Lord of the Rings" look). In one day you can cover 3 microclimates in a single session.
For photography this means unmatched variety: same session can have Caribbean beach at sunrise, laurisilva forest with fog-filtered light at noon, and volcanic landscape with Milky Way the next dawn. Tenerife is Spain's only location with skies dark enough for high-quality astronomical photography — declared Starlight Reserve.
Best photo spots in Tenerife

Anaga (Punta del Hidalgo, Taganana, El Bailadero): UNESCO laurel forest, mystical fog filtering light. For "Lord of the Rings" look. Free access, best in September-November when fog is dense.
Masca: village deep in a gorge, white houses hanging from rock. Paid parking, free viewpoint access. For "secret mountainous Spain" look.
Punta de Teno: Tenerife's westernmost point, lighthouse with vertical cliffs over Atlantic. Access only by official bus 9:30-17:00 (controlled tourism). Incredible sunset from lighthouse.
Costa Adeje and Los Cristianos: tourist beach zone with resorts. For "Mediterranean vacation" look with palms and black-golden sand. Best 8:00-10:00 or 17:00-19:00.
Garachico: historic village destroyed by 1706 eruption, today with natural pools in lava. For "authentic coastal Spain" look without mass resort. Free access.
Mirador de Los Erjos: above the atmosphere, no light pollution. For night photography with Milky Way (best May-August no moon).

Reviews in Tenerife
"Three generations together on a Tenerife beach. Getting my mother and the grandkids to all look at once is no small feat. We cried seeing the gallery."
