Street style photoshoot — Granada

In a standard session of an hour to an hour and a half, one or two looks work well. Granada makes a quick change easy in a teahouse or a discreet Albaicín doorway, and each neighbourhood changes the backdrop so much that a single look already feels like several sessions. If you want three or more, we book a little more time so we don't lose the best light.

On the contrary: the slopes and staircases are one of the best street-style resources here. They give diagonal lines, depth and dynamism that don't exist on a flat street. I plan the route top to bottom so you walk comfortably, and for the movement shots I use the level changes. You just want footwear you feel steady walking in.

For a handheld street-style session through the public streets of the Albaicín, the Realejo or the centre, no permit is needed. The serious restriction is inside the Alhambra grounds, where commercial use and tripods aren't allowed; that's why we always use it as a backdrop from the viewpoints. If we ever planned something with bigger production, I'd arrange it in advance.

There are two winning moments. Very early morning, with the Albaicín almost empty and clean, directional mountain light, ideal for clear backgrounds. And the golden hour at sunset, when the Alhambra lights up and the slopes fill with warm, raking light. I avoid midday in summer for the heat and hard shadows; in winter, though, the low daylight works at almost any hour.
