How many looks can I bring to the session?

In a standard session of an hour to an hour and a half, one or two looks work well. Granada makes a quick change easy in a teahouse or a discreet Albaicín doorway, and each neighbourhood changes the backdrop so much that a single look already feels like several sessions. If you want three or more, we book a little more time so we don't lose the best light.

Do the Albaicín slopes complicate the shoot?

On the contrary: the slopes and staircases are one of the best street-style resources here. They give diagonal lines, depth and dynamism that don't exist on a flat street. I plan the route top to bottom so you walk comfortably, and for the movement shots I use the level changes. You just want footwear you feel steady walking in.

Do I need a permit to shoot in the street?

For a handheld street-style session through the public streets of the Albaicín, the Realejo or the centre, no permit is needed. The serious restriction is inside the Alhambra grounds, where commercial use and tripods aren't allowed; that's why we always use it as a backdrop from the viewpoints. If we ever planned something with bigger production, I'd arrange it in advance.

What time of day gives the best street style in Granada?

There are two winning moments. Very early morning, with the Albaicín almost empty and clean, directional mountain light, ideal for clear backgrounds. And the golden hour at sunset, when the Alhambra lights up and the slopes fill with warm, raking light. I avoid midday in summer for the heat and hard shadows; in winter, though, the low daylight works at almost any hour.

Street style amid whitewash, slopes and the Alhambra

Granada is a street-style set that never repeats: the white slopes of the Albaicín, the fabrics and spices of the Calderería, the graffiti of the Realejo and, around a corner, the golden Alhambra floating over the Sierra Nevada. Few cities give so much backdrop in so little space.

The look works here by contrast: a contemporary piece against centuries-old whitewashed walls, a clean silhouette against ochre stone. The city brings texture and character; you bring the attitude.

I shoot on the move, with the living street all around. No studio: natural light, a real stride and the energy of a neighbourhood that climbs and drops without stopping.

The settings we use

The Calderería, with its teahouses, hung fabrics and Arabic signs, is pure colour for an urban look. The slopes and staircases of the Albaicín give lines and depth, and whitewashed walls that frame any silhouette. The Realejo, the old Jewish quarter, brings street art and grainy façades.

For the impact shot we climb to the Mirador de San Nicolás: the golden Alhambra and the Sierra Nevada behind you, without entering the grounds, which limit commercial use and tripods. The centre around the Alcaicería and Plaza Bib-Rambla adds bustle, shop windows and marble paving for something more cosmopolitan.

We do a nimble walking route chaining these spots. We move fast when needed and stop where the light and background call for a couple more frames.

Light, timing and delivery

Street style thrives in two windows: early morning, with empty streets and clean mountain light, and the last hour of the afternoon, when the Alhambra lights up and the slopes fill with raking light. Spring and autumn are the most comfortable; in summer we avoid midday and in winter the snowy Sierra Nevada lifts any shot.

A session lasts between an hour and an hour and a half: just right for one or two looks and a chain of three or four different backdrops without rushing.
