Granada is one of the few cities in Spain where a night portrait gets a storybook backdrop effortlessly: from the Mirador de San Nicolás, the Alhambra glows on its hill with the Sierra Nevada behind it, and that image only exists once the light drops.
The Albaicín quarter supplies the rest — whitewashed lanes, warm lamplight, stone arches — wrapping the subject in a Moorish atmosphere no other city can lend.
When the day fades the good part begins: fewer people, directed light and a clean mountain air that lets every portrait breathe.
How we work the light after sunset
We start in the blue hour, right when the sky still holds a deep blue and the Alhambra is already glowing: it's the only moment when background and subject expose well at once. We climb to the Mirador de San Nicolás early to claim a spot before the sunset crowd arrives.
To light you I use a small, warm, soft portable light, or lean on the Albaicín's own lamps. No harsh flash: the aim is for the portrait to look lit by the city, not by a spotlight. We work off a tripod to keep grain clean and the background sharp.
Then we walk down the Albaicín slopes hunting for arches, doorways and lamp-lit corners. If you'd like, we finish at a Sacromonte viewpoint, with the caves and the city below. I guide you through every pose: no camera experience needed.
Logistics, duration and price
The session runs between an hour and a half and two hours, chaining the blue hour into full night. We meet at the Mirador de San Nicolás or the edge of the Albaicín; the quarter is pedestrian and covered on foot, so come in comfortable shoes. Book with margin, as the blue hour shifts every week.
The night portrait starts at €150 and includes the guided session, several Albaicín locations and professional editing. I deliver a high-resolution digital gallery in five to ten days, with careful work on the night colour and the sky.
