Yes, I plan it with them precisely in mind. We choose a flat, accessible location like the Explanada de España, with benches nearby to rest between shots. There are no long walks or uncomfortable poses: they can be seated for most of the portraits if they prefer. I take it calmly, make pauses and adapt to their energy. What matters is that they enjoy the time, not that they get exhausted.

Large groups are no problem — I've photographed families of twelve or fifteen without difficulty. The Explanada and the Postiguet promenade have ample room to arrange everyone neatly so all the faces show well. With many members it's worth booking a little more time and, if there are any, planning around the small children. Tell me how many you'll be at booking and I'll organise it all.

Of course, it's the usual thing and I recommend it. We start with the well-arranged group portrait, everyone looking, which is the one you'll want to print large for home or for the grandparents. Once that's sorted, I relax the session: let the grandchildren play, the grandparents chat, and I capture the natural side. That way you take both — the classic photo for the wall and the family's real life.

The trick is to choose a palette of two or three colours that go together and let everyone interpret it their own way, without uniforming. Soft, natural tones — whites, beige, blues, muted greens — work very well with Alicante's golden light and across different ages. Avoid big logos and strong prints.
