In Barcelona I set up birthday sessions full of colour and fun, designed for the little one to have a blast. The point isn't a perfect photo but the look of surprise at the first bite, hands covered in sponge and the contagious laugh of someone who discovers they can demolish a whole cake.
You enjoy watching it; I make sure every reaction is captured. And yes, we clean up afterwards.
How the shoot runs and where we do it
The cake smash happens in a controlled set so the mess is easy to clean and the focus is on the little one. I can set it up at your home or in an indoor space, with a coloured backdrop, balloons, a matching cake and good light. We start with some clean portraits of the baby looking smart, and then the cake and the fun chaos arrive.
If you prefer something outdoors and more natural, we can do the birthday portrait part in a pretty corner of Parc de la Ciutadella or among the mosaics of Park Güell, with balloons and simple props. The smash itself we keep for an easy-to-clean spot.
I ask nothing of the baby: I give it the cake and let curiosity do the rest. Some dive in headfirst, others eye it warily — and both reactions are gold. I shoot the whole time so I don't miss a single gesture.
When, duration and what you receive
The cake smash is linked to the first birthday, but it works great between ten and fifteen months, when the little one already sits up alone and is curious about food. As it's usually indoors, we do it any time of year, regardless of weather. We choose the time around the baby's nap to catch it rested and in a good mood.
A session lasts about an hour: we start with the clean portraits, the smash comes, and we finish with some final photos — sometimes even an improvised little bath that gives adorable images. We go unhurried, with pauses if the little one needs them.
You receive a digital gallery of hand-edited high-resolution photos, ready in five to ten days, perfect to celebrate the first year in style. From €160; the set, backdrop and basic props are included. If you'd like a custom cake, a specific theme or to include the siblings, we arrange it at booking.
