Proposal photography — Mallorca

I arrive before you and position myself fifteen to forty metres away with a telephoto lens, dressed like any tourist taking in the view. In busy spots like Formentor or Sa Foradada nobody notices one more person with a camera. We agree in advance on the direction you'll arrive from so I have the sun and background in my favour, and a discreet signal from you marks the start. Your partner only sees you.

I give you a couple of minutes to yourselves — the hug, the tears, the first phone calls — while still shooting from a distance, because that's where the most genuine reactions are. Then I come over, congratulate you and, if you feel like it, we do a calm twenty- to thirty-minute mini-session around the area. With the surprise over, relaxed and with the ring on, that's when the portraits you'll want to frame appear.

The golden hour, just before sunset, gives the most romantic and flattering light. In summer sunrise is a hidden gem: the same soft light, but empty locations. As for season, spring and early autumn are ideal — clear skies, pleasant temperatures and far fewer people than July and August. If you can only come in high summer, we plan for sunrise.

The basic proposal includes covering the surprise moment from a distance and a short couple session right after, with a digital gallery of edited high-resolution photos delivered within a few days, ready to share or print. You can extend it with more time, a second location, video, drone or an arrival by boat — we quote that to your measure when you book, with no surprises.

In proposal season (May to October) rain is uncommon, but we always have a plan B. If the forecast turns, we shift the time within the same day or move to a sheltered location like Palma cathedral's cloister or Valldemossa's Cartuja. And if only light rain falls, photos under a transparent umbrella with the sky mirrored on the ground often end up being the favourites.

Yes, and it's one of the loveliest twists. We arrange for family or friends to wait out of sight — around a bend in the path, on a nearby terrace — and appear right after the yes to celebrate together. We plan it in the pre-shoot message so the surprise is double and I can capture both the intimate moment and the reunion. It works beautifully in places with corners to hide in, like Valldemossa or the Formentor viewpoints.
