Marriage proposal in Ibiza: complete guide to locations, sunsets and photographer

Cala d'Hort with Es Vedrà at sunset: the most iconic image of Ibiza. The islet of Es Vedrà silhouetted against the setting sun, pink-orange-violet for 40 minutes. To avoid crowds, go down to Cala d'Hort itself (not the upper viewpoint) and pick the rock zone north of the cove — more intimate. Arrive 2 hours before sunset.

Cala Comte (Cala Conta): "sunset number two" of Ibiza, with direct view of the open-sea horizon, no obstacles. Best for couples who prefer flat sea and fine sand. The rocks of the small northern cove are excellent for an intimate proposal. Sunset Ashram restaurant right above if you want dinner after.

Dalt Vila (Eivissa, UNESCO site): the walled city at sunset from Baluard de Santa Llúcia or Sa Carrossa. Golden walls overlooking the port and open sea. The most elegant option, no wind, easy to combine with dinner in a historic restaurant. Ideal in autumn and winter when side light is longer.

Best hour of the day: "golden hour" — between 45 and 20 minutes before sunset. The warm pink light typical of Ibiza makes any skin and outfit more beautiful. Sunset works for Es Vedrà; sunrise also works for Cala Salada and Saladeta (more intimate, empty).

Weather plan B: Ibiza has very stable climate from May to October — rare and short rain. If you go in April or November, leave a buffer day. Backup locations: cloister of Dalt Vila cathedral, interior courtyards of Eivissa boutique hotels, glass-roof restaurants.

There is a unique Ibiza factor: wind. The west and north coasts can have strong afternoon wind that messes up hair and complicates audio (if recording video). Before locking the location, check Windy app 48-72 hours ahead. If there is a wind warning, move the proposal to the more sheltered south (Ses Salines, Cap des Falcó).

Busy sunsets: the trick for Es Vedrà or Comte is to arrive 90-120 minutes before sunset. The couple settles in, the photographer chooses an angle while the sun is still high and already has a plan B if more people arrive. The "yes" moment should fall 25-15 minutes before sunset, not at the peak — light lasts longer and tourists have not yet reached maximum density.

Post-proposal dinner with a view: D'Alt Vila (Sa Carrossa, La Brasa), west near Comte (Sunset Ashram, Sa Tasca), restaurants facing Es Vedrà (Es Boldadó, Cap des Falcó restaurant). Book 2-3 weeks ahead and request a front-facing horizon table. If you go in July-August, book 6-8 weeks ahead.

Consider a drone only if the location allows it. Es Vedrà and Cala d'Hort are within a Natural Reserve — drone flight requires specific permission, rarely granted. Cala Comte, Cala Salada and Benirrás are looser but still advisable to check NO-FLY zones before flying.

After the "yes": let 10-15 minutes pass for real emotion, then a consented mini session — long hug, kiss, ring close-up, slow beach walk. This part comes out best when the sky is already pink-violet, right after sunset. Many people leave and the cove is almost empty.

Transport: rent a car at the airport on arrival day. West locations (Comte, Salada, Es Vedrà) are 25-45 minutes from the airport. North (Benirrás) 35-50 minutes. Dalt Vila 5 minutes. Without a car, private taxi with waiting costs €60-120 per leg.

Es Vedrà viewpoint access: the Es Vedrà viewpoint parking fills up 1 hour before sunset between May and September. For a guaranteed spot arrive 2-2.5 hours early. For Cala d'Hort (beach below) there is extra parking, also limited.

Recommended lodging: for west / Es Vedrà area, stay at Cala Vadella, Cala Tarida or Sant Josep. For north / Benirrás, San Joan or Portinatx. For Dalt Vila, boutique lodging in Eivissa old town.

Plan B: Ibiza weather forecast is very reliable at 48-72 hours. Agree with your photographer on an indoor alternative (Dalt Vila cathedral cloister, boutique hotel patio) and reserve a buffer day in the trip. If wind is too strong on the planned day, shift to another — south locations (Ses Salines) are more sheltered.

"Ibiza chic" style — relaxed, off-white, linen, flowing. For her: midi or long dress in white, cream, dust or terracotta; flat sandals or barefoot on cove. For him: open linen shirt, light linen trousers, espadrilles or barefoot. Avoid large patterns, visible logos and bright pure white.
