Fashion editorial in Seville
A fashion editorial isn't a pretty portrait session: it tells a story. There's an idea behind it — a character, an attitude, a tension between the clothing and the place — and every frame pushes that narrative. My job is to build that atmosphere with light, framing and direction, not just to capture garments.
Seville is a ready-made film set. The geometric tilework, the Mudéjar arches, white whitewash against deep shadow, the golden light raking across stone at sunset — all of it gives texture and character a neutral studio never will. The city brings drama for free.
I work with brands, designers, agencies and models who want images with editorial intent: covers, lookbooks, campaigns, portfolio building. We define the aesthetic together before shooting.
Locations and how the shoot runs
Seville offers very different registers within a few streets. The Plaza de España gives architectural grandeur and symmetry — perfect for a couture story. The Real Alcázar brings Mudéjar colour, tile geometry and gardens for a romantic or exotic mood. Las Setas (Metropol Parasol) gives contemporary lines, timber and graphic shadow for something more avant-garde.
For raw textures and dramatic light, the whitewashed lanes of the Barrio Santa Cruz and the Guadalquivir bank by the Triana bridge work beautifully, especially backlit. We combine two or three locations to suit the concept, all a short walk apart in the centre.
I direct actively: pose, gaze, gesture and rhythm, shaping the natural light or adding flash when the concept calls for it. I coordinate with styling, hair and make-up if they're on the team, and work from an agreed moodboard so the shoot runs tight, not improvised on the fly.
Production, season and delivery
Light leads in fashion. The golden hour at sunrise and sunset gives a warm drama that's hard to replicate; summer midday in Seville is extreme heat and harsh light, so we save those hours for shaded interiors or avoid them. Spring and autumn are ideal for shooting outdoors in comfort.
An editorial usually runs two to four hours, depending on the number of looks and locations. It includes on-set direction, several changes and the logistics of moving between spots; styling, hair and make-up join the team if you need them.
Editorials are quoted by project, based on usage (portfolio, lookbook, campaign), number of looks and image rights — send me the brief and I'll prepare a tailored proposal. Delivery is a selection of images with high-end editorial retouching, usually in five to ten days, with optional extra retouching depending on the campaign.
